Race Classes

The Goal is to race like for like chassis, power train and battery type excluding the Open/Mod Class. This will ensure uniform static rules to solidify any shifts in technology and maintain our club racing format for seasons to come. 

In Nov-2023 MMRC adopted the Rocky Mtn 1/28th Scale Alliance rules, bolstering our Core Classes to allow locals and visiting drivers the advantages of a shared ruleset.  Please see other RMSA tracks in the US!  

MMRC still maintains a health Hobby Class listing allowing local drivers the ability to trial various race concepts. These classes may come and go as interests shift so please verify in the MMRC Slack channel before jumping in.

I'm a beginner, where do I start?
We suggest the BoxStock for all new drivers, then progress to Kyosho GT Masters, & RMSA Lipo Stock classes as skills improve.

I have moderate skills, where do I start?
We suggest the BoxStock and perhaps the Kyosho GT Masters for drivers that have experience with Kyosho based cars, and RMSA Lipo Stock class for those with lipo based cars.

I have advanced skills, where do I start?
We suggest the Kyosho GT Masters for drivers that have experience with Kyosho based cars, and RMSA Lipo Stock, RMSA 3500GT, or check with members regarding the current interest in MMRC Hobby Classes.  For those with an interest in F1, the club offers a F1-2500kv Spec class but check with members to determine if it's currently running.

Kyosho GT Masters

Kyosho GT Masters is designed as a class for skilled drivers wishing to race at a lower performance level. Even though the motor is slower the intention is to increase competition for any given race. Therefore racers who wish to race in this class must demonstrate driving skill through qualifiers. There are 3 ways to gain entrance to this class.

BodyMini-Z compatible purpose built hard body (Kyosho Autoscale, Jomurema GT01, TRP Mosler, Iwaver Firelap and GL…) with the hard plastic or lexan window inserts. All windows must be present. Bodies may be altered for wheelbase with a maximum wheel opening of 31mm measured horizontally. Wheel wells may be altered for tire clearance but the body must cover the tire viewed from above. Headlight buckets may be omitted but the lens must be in place (or covered by decal). Taillights should be installed. The rear bumper may be modified, but no higher than 18mm from the ground with the body installed. No other changes to the rear of the body are permitted. Small body parts may be omitted. Front splitters may be trimmed for track clearance. Body sides may be shaved if there is a track clearance issue. 

Wing: All wings original to the body are legal. Aftermarket or non original wings have a maximum height of 45mm from the ground or must not extend higher than roof line relative to chassis bottom plane (excluding extensive roof scoops, for example Kyosho NSX) or past widest point of body. This includes all parts of wing (side dams, etc...). Bodies which come original with the wing overhanging the body are exempt from the restriction of placing the wing within body limits.

Any Brand of Rubber Mini-Z production tire ONLY. Homemade tires, Foam tires, Silicon tires, Urethane tires, Ethyl Carbamate tires NOT allowed. No tire insert use. Traction compounds NOT allowed on tire or on race surface. Tire warmers are allowed. Tires may be cleaned with a 70% alcohol solution. If a driver uses tire cleaner that has been deemed illegal, the driver will be subject to any penalties that apply. Please address any questions concerning tire cleaners at the drivers meeting.

Note to newcomers: The Kyosho EVO with the Xpeed 56 5600kv blue motor will be the best base platform for this class. Kyosho and R246 will allow this car to be run at any Kyosho sponsored event nationally or internationally.
